When Friends Center for Children purchased the abandoned Cine 4 property at 25 Flint Street in New Haven, planning began for a new early childhood education campus in the Quinnipiac Meadows neighborhood. The completed masterplan includes 3 phases of construction, with the renovation of the existing cinema building being the first phase. Renovations are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2023 and will convert the existing building into an administrative facility with classrooms for infants and toddlers. One of the existing theater spaces will remain as a cinema for the viewing pleasure of the Friends Center community. Phase 2 of the campus development will include a new classroom building and completion of the new parking and campus landscaping. A future phase 3 building is also planned for the site.
The campus will center around a green courtyard sheltered by the surrounding buildings, which will provide the young students, their families, and the staff of Friends Center with a secure gathering and play space in the heart of the campus.
