This parcel of land in the center of Madison, ideally located for walkable amenities and beach access, centers around an existing historic house known as “The General’s Residence” after one of its storied owners. The concept for a new community of condo units involves locating single-family detached homes along the road, facing a new communal green, or looking outward toward a small river and marshland. Units are designed for compact living and to be in harmony with their context – striking a balance between modern materials and detailing, and the traditional forms of New England farmhouses. Two barn-like buildings house additional apartment units above 4-bay garages, and the project preserves the original General’s Residence as a site anchor and piece of local history.
