The Hidden Brook Residence is a pre-certified Phius+ 2018 Passive House designed for sustainable living in Bethany, CT. Nestled by a brook that feeds Lake Watrous, just west of West Rock Park, the home’s design responds to its natural surroundings with careful considerations for water management and minimal site impact.
The clients envisioned a modern, energy-efficient home, and the design incorporates several cutting-edge sustainability features. Rain chains with water wells will manage stormwater drainage, while an innovative metal roof panel integrated with solar—the first of its kind installed in the U.S.—will generate enough power for the entire house, including battery storage and electric vehicle charging. The exterior features natural cedar siding with a burnt finish, reducing the need for paints and allowing the material to age naturally with durability. Triple-pane windows will further enhance energy efficiency, meeting Passive House standards.
