Please join us in giving an enthusiastic welcome to the newest member of our team, Lauryn Bullock! Lauryn joins the Patriquin Team following several years experience working for QA+M Architecture in Farmington, CT. Her path with architecture started early, having attended Bullard-Havens Technical High School where she began drafting and learning about sustainable practices. She went on to receive her B.S. in Architectural Design Technology from the University of Hartford, and through her career has developed a passion for interior design. Below Lauryn shares some of her favorite aspects and inspirations in the field of architecture.
Why architecture?
I have always been interested in all things design from a young age. I knew once I got to high school and took my first drafting class that I would love the world of architecture and design. There is always something to learn no matter what stage of your career you are in and I am always eager to learn anything I can.
What excites you about architecture/design and what are your favorite parts of the design/construction/project delivery process?
One thing that I have always appreciated about architecture and design is the professions’ ability to embrace the individuality of each person involved in the process. Everyone can take the same design problem and come up with something completely different from each other. But the result that comes from taking all the ideas and solving the problem together is nothing short of amazing. I feel that because of my strong interest in interior design, my favorite part of the process is usually the result after construction. Walking through a space that I had the pleasure of creating or transforming in some way, will always be an experience like no other.
What “hats” (roles, strengths, etc.) do you see yourself wearing at Patriquin?
I am hoping to get my WELL certification and/or become a Fitwel ambassador soon and begin applying those standards to our design projects. Our office has an amazing and highly supportive team that I am looking forward to learning a lot from.
Hobbies/projects/role you’d like to highlight outside of the office?
Outside of the office you will often find me creating something of some sort. I love doing all sorts of DIY projects, relaxing in my hammock, and crocheting.
